As you may have already guessed, this post is about one of the best beauty treatments I have ever had…..Eyelash Extensions. I feel like eyelash extensions have really taken the industry by storm and seem to be all the rage at the moment.
I remember many a year ago now when I was first considering eyelash extensions, I was super hesitant. To be honest, I really had no idea what was involved. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be terrible for my lashes, uncomfortable or how long the application process took.
It was only when I saw a friend donning a fresh set of lash extensions, I knew it was a must try beauty treatment. My friend’s new appearance added that little extra something to her look and her lashes looked absolutely beautiful, so naturally I asked where she got them done.
This is how I met Ellerin. Ellerin, the lovely and oh so talented lash technician behind Standout Beauty (@standout.beauty).
Ellie is beautiful, talented and makes you feel at ease and super comfortable when you visit her at home salon. Do check her out on instagram and Facebook if your in Brisbane. Now let me jump into explaining a little about the process.
Ellie starts off by ensuring you are comfortable in her recliner chair and even gives you a little blanket. She has set up a lash sanctuary that is relaxing, calming and has a fabulous atmosphere to get beautified within.
Hygiene and cleanliness is important where lash extensions are concerned. You need to ensure a clean base for application and Ellie starts off by gently cleansing your lids to remove any excess oils or makeup that may have built up. This helps to extend the life of your lash extensions and keep your natural eyelashes healthy.
The next step is for the collagen under eye pads (seen below) to be adhered just below your lower lash line. This is no way feels uncomfortable as the pads are super moisturising to ensure the skin is not irritated.
The lash application then begins. Basically lash extensions are where light-weight extensions are applied to each natural lash, creating the perfect curl and adding extra length to your lashes.
The application time can vary depending on the type of eyelash extension set you choose. It is best to chat to your lash technician to decide what will be best for you and what will suit your eyes. All of the lashes Ellie uses are vegan and cruelty free.
I have tried a set of Classic Lashes as well as Russian Volume 2-4D set. The pictures in this blog post feature the Russian Volume set of lashes and they are without a doubt stunning and provide intense volume. These lashes are so soft!! The look and feel are also super natural. The Russian lash extension hairs are extremely soft, fluffy and very delicate. The Russian lashes do not stress the natural lash as they are so light-weight and delicate.
The only downside to the Russian volume set is the application time, it can take up to 3 hours for your first application. This is because the Russian set essentially creates a bouquet of lashes, fanning out two or more lashes and attaching them to each individual lash. This leaves you with a stunning voluminous set of full lashes.
In contrast, the classic set attaches one extension to each natural lash.
I find my lashes provide instant glam to my look and highlight the features of the face. I also don’t apply mascara and rarely apply eye makeup as I already feel my lashes provide such a put together look when I am busy and on the go.
My two top tips when it comes to lashes:
- Clean your lash extensions!! Makeup can really build up in your lashes, so it is really important to remove all signs of makeup. A small fluffy brush and some micellar water or a professional eyelash foam cleanser is perfect to really remove any left over makeup that can build up; and
- Do your research!! There is real skill and a specific technique to this and an exceptionally talented and trained lash technician is the only person you should trust to do this. Lash artists need more than one course and are always learning about new techniques. Please do your research guys if you are considering lashes and if you find someone that is very very cheap, it is probably too good to be true. Make sure you see examples of people’s work.
You don’t want to be left with damaged lashes!
Let me know if you have tried lash extensions before and love them as much as I do in the comments. Also let me know if you have visited the talented Ellie in Brisbane for your lash transformation!
Lots of love.
