Hi lovely people, today I’m diving in and reviewing a few of the primers I have been switching between for the last few months.
I love trying new products and being able to give you guys the down low, so I hope this is helpful. Do tell me in the comments something I’ve got to try.
Let’s get into it.
OCosmedics – Mineral Pro SPF30+ Sheer Tinted
This product in general has been an absolute MUST HAVE for me and one product in particular that I have not been able to stop using. Basically it’s a fab tinted moisturiser that is SPF30+ and provides broad spectrum UBA & UVB protection. This is so important for me given I live in a country where the harsh sun don’t stop shining. I have very fair skin so keeping my skin protected is a high priority. It was 100% in my artillery for my recent trip to Europe.
This works so well as a base for my makeup application as the formula is lightweight and fast absorbing. Most importantly if you’re really wanting a barrier from the sun, this guy is for you…why?! The ingredient zinc oxide is an active ingredient that effectively blocks all parts of the UV spectrum, including both UVA and UVB radiation. Very important ingredient if you’re looking for a good sun protector.
The high amounts of SPF/zinc oxide may cause flashback in photography, so probably not a good option if you are planning on taking lots of snaps for the gram. I’ve recently ran out and this makes me SO sad….
Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield – Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30
This is quite the cult favourite and my opinion is no different to the masses, I love it. This guy delivers a three in one kind of deal. It will moisturise, provide sun protection and prep your face for makeup with its priming abilities.
I don’t generally like the consistency of these types of formulas, a clear gel with a silky texture which applies beautifully and smoothly.
The main downfalls tend to be associated with the products fragrance which will make it a no go for anyone with sensitive skin. From my research, further downfalls are associated with the sun protection, apparently not enough to rely on! I also find it sometimes difficult to work with if too much is applied. The formula goes a little tacky and tends to move around the face which can cause makeup to slide and powder to roll off your face. Apply liberally and be extra careful to ensure the primer has dried sufficiently before applying makeup.
Despite the negatives, I do still like this formula and the way my makeup sits all day when I use it.
This seems to be soo popular amongst the beauty peeps of the world…..can I say I don’t quite get it? I mean yeah its good and it feels nice on your skin given it’s silky, balm like texture, although why it gets hyped up I don’t quite know. A lot of people say it does a fab job at minimizing pores and smoothing skin (hence the name), which I don’t really notice, but this may be down to the fact that I don’t have large pores to fill?!? I still think their claims of pore minimisation is greatly overstated. This primer sits well under makeup and leaves skin feeling smooth with a matte finish. That’s all I got and I probably won’t be repurchasing.
Smashbox Photo finish
This is sooooo underwhelming it’s not really funny (haaaa okay maybe a little!). This clear, gel like silicone-based primer really doesn’t provide much of anything. I really don’t like the texture or the way it feels on my face. This is just a tester I got and there is no way I would purchase the full size. I really prefer a much more moisturising feel when I apply a primer and this won’t provide that at all.
There aren’t many beneficial skin ingredients in this guy and it really only delivers a matte, smooth finish that may work well with makeup formulas that have a similar matte finish.
Thanks for reading my pretties, I hope you enjoyed this post and the reviews. Make sure to comment your favourites primers!!
Lots of love,
