So if you are reading this blog post, then I guess you are currently facing the challenge of #wfh with your partner during isolation.
My partner Ben and I have been #wfh for 3 weeks now…going on 4 (has it been that long?) and whilst we already spend a lot of time together, this has definitely pushed the friendship. After a few weeks we have now gotten ourselves into a great routine so I wanted to share our top tips for surviving living 24/7 with your significant other.
Let’s dive right in!
Have a Designated Working Space
It is super important to try and separate work from rest. So as tempting as it may be to grab the laptop and be super cosy on the couch or your bed, it’s really not great for productivity or your mind set. If you are lucky enough to have separate rooms, set up separate working spaces. But…if you are working on the same table like Ben and I are, make sure to respect each others space.
Keep Active
As part of your daily routine it is so important to stay fit and keep up that physical exercise…move your body every day! Being cooped up in the house with your partner ain’t easy so try and motivate each other with a few home workouts. Working out together is great but also make sure you get your alone time to de-stress.
It doesn’t matter if you head out for a run, cycle or a walk up and down the stairwell in your apartment, the key is for psychical exercise to keep your mind sharp and spirits high.
Take Turns Making Making Meals
No one likes the hangry co-worker, so I recommend bringing each other meals throughout the day to help keep the peace. Ben and I have been sharing the burden when it comes to cooking meals throughout the day and it’s worked so well for us making sure one person isn’t doing all the cooking/toastie making.
Stick to a Routine
Try and wake up nice and early at the same time every day, making sure to write yourself a to do list for the day. A to list will help keep you focused and give you structure when there are so many distractions at home. Make sure you’re setting aside an hour for your lunch break and any breaks you might need throughout the day. Again, try and have these breaks at the same time each day. Keeping to a set routine makes you feel more like you are at work and you will be more likely to be productive!
Set Some Ground Rules
Set a few rules for you and your partner to stick by during this #wfh situation. Depending on your job it can be quite stressful being thrown into this situation. If you are working from the same table, lay down some guidance for you both to follow in terms of listening to music, work video calls etc.
Dress the Part
This is my personal favourite!! Whilst it may be tempting to stay in your pjs all day, it’s not great for morale and really not good for video calls with your boss. I like to chuck on my favourite blazer typically a nice bright one or wear your favourite set of lounge wear so you can really stay professional. Obviously we all have those days where it’s also nice to stay in your workout gear, I find this helps me to also want to do a lunchtime workout and maybe an afternoon bike ride when i’m already dressed for it.
I really hope these tips help you guys avoid a quarantine break-up, whilst keeping some harmony in your relationship! Keep safe and stay home friends.
Lots of love, V xx
